Igorot celebrities: Zorayda Ruth Adam, Eric Salvador, Marky Cielo

Marky Cielo (StarStruck 3 finalist) is not the first Igorot celebrity. We have Zorayda Ruth Adam (Bb. Pilipinas Universe 2001, a lawyer who graduated form UP Diliman) and Erik Salvador (Mr. Philippines World 1999) to say the least.

Andam is part of the all-woman prosecution panel in the high-profile Subic rape case involving six US servicemen.

Salvador was part of a movie called Abong/Small Home where Joel Torre starred.

*There is also a certain Eric Salvador, a Hong Kong based model who hails from Bulacan. He is not Erik Salvador the Igorot who won the Mr Philippines World title.

  1. Gwen Garci is also an igorota from Besao. her mom is a Tallayo from Padangaan Besao. she never mentioned this thinking maybe that it will work to her disadvantage but more shame on her.
I’m proud for you Marky for saying you’re an igorot. Erik Salvador did tell that he’s an igorot when he won the Mr. Philippines and kudos to him also.

When gian (one of the Starstruck contestant) commented that you will not make it because you’re an igorot, it showed his obvious ignorance. Pakita niya muna that he’s more talented than you are ni sa mukha lang wala na siyang laban sayo.

  2. i agree, being true in any way is always the best thing…like marky, pinakita nya there’s nothing wrong kung igort ka man or what, so long as alam mo kung ano kaya mong gawin and u know who and what to deal with makes you a winner…no doubt, u inspired a lot of people marky, and with that it makes you winner already!

  3. during marky’s childhood years, he used to visit in our place back in mindanao, his talents are best appreciated not only among his igorot brothers, but his fans extend all the way to mindanao region as well,..!

  4. HEy marky! good work! IGOROT KA B NGA tlga????? well hope your not just using your ethnicity for your showbiz identity ha!!!!! any way when i went home sa mt. province this xmas season, they were giving out flyers to gain text votes on starstruck, i am not a fan of starstruck nor gma tv coz im solely abs-cbn but i will also support you since you acknowledged that you ar igorot!!! Im proud of you!Just a few acknowledge themselves publicly as igorots esp. there iin manila I can also see that you are really SO IGOROT just by your looks alone!! Sorry I cannot watch you since I am workin at night as a call center agent!! and god bless!!! Go for the IT and KABUNYAN will bless you! Just be humble always and dont Make fame overcome your humility!!!

  5. Hello Marky, I am from Bontoc and I am a proud Igorot. It will really take some time to erase any negative “thoughts” about us Igorots on the part of lowland brothers. Be an ambassador and show the world what an Igorot really is. We are no different from anyone, anywhere. It just so happened that we were never “conquered” by the Spaniards, thus we were able to retain our identify as a unique tribe. My kids get to watch you on TV but as a 40 year old father my preferences are CNN, Discovery and Dokyu on ABC. Try to find time and read, be well informed –that will help prepare you in future hosting jobs on TV. At least you will have something to say. Don’t be swayed by unsavory remarks, and don’t be carried by the stir created by one of your co-competitors on the “Igorot” remark. Remember you are still a Filipino. Instead, concentrate on developing your talents/skills to get more votes not only from Igorotlandia. We are all supporting you here in Mountain Province. Lastly, please don’t blog as if you are texting. We are suppossed to be good English speakers isn’t it? Good luck.

  6. Ooops forgive my bloopers. Identify should be identity. “on the part of lowland brothers…” should be on the part of our lowland brothers. Maid gayam editor tona ay blog, he he.

  7. hi marky am a memeber of your yahoo groups am from tadian its good na meron tayong kailyan na nakapasok jan, any way kahit saan man d mo talaga maitatago ang kagandahan at kagwapuhan ng isang igorot ngem pare basta iman man mu csa adi ka men pa apekto san pan dadael da talaga ngarud ay kagtusa nan showbiz kanan da iman man mu kayet be the ultimate stra struck survivor

  8. marky… if someone is pulling you down.. it only means one thing— you are above them… Don’t get carried away with what others have to say against you!!! Specially don’t get bothered when others discriminate you for being an IGOROT. I grew up here in baguio and i can’t find reasons of unwanting our igorot brothers. In fact, i always look up to them! Ayos lang dayta!🙂

  9. ‘di ko naumpisahan ang starstruck 3 eh, coz i thought its not interesting at all, kasi nga pa-3rd season na, pero when i watched the previous episodes, ok pala. nakaka-inspire ‘yung dedication ni marky to achieve his dreams. di ba kasi some says he’s different, or parang he don’t belong, kasi he’s an igorot? well it really doesn’t matter, kasi s’ya pa nga pinakatalented sa group. sometimes pa nga it works na inaapi ka, coz it bounds na ikaw pa ‘yung mananalo in the end. sana si marky ang manalo, para naman madagdagan ‘yung young ones sa biz na hindi puro pa-cute lang. marky is the best among the guys sa final 14. hindi yon tsamba, he’s really a natural-born-survivor! go marky!!!

  10. hi marky just want you to know that you also have a fan in dubai..
i admire your being honest..keep it up though wla me tfc sa house pro ok lang ksi as ive read ung mga post sau and i really admire you plus your good looking pa.
    keep it up
    sana kaw ung manalo!

  11. Helo Marcky!
You touched many lives of the youngs in the mountains. I hope they should start to be proud of their identities – being an Igorot or a Mountain people. I hope also that our brothers and sisters in the lowlands would erase the notion about us – that we are small people and have tails. I did not believe this notion of others about us but i’ve proven it because even some teachers in the lowlands during national seminars and gatherings believe that we are not igorots if we introduce ourself as one.
Go ahead in telling to the world that you are an igorot and you do not have tail; that they (lowlanders) and you (mountainers) are but equal.
We are very proud of you!!! Good luck!

  12. hello marky, SHOW THEM WHAT YOU GOT! that’s our group’s “bukang-bibig” here at batangas… anyway, we are also proud of what you are now! Matago-tago tako ay Igorot!

  13. Marky’s Igorot support in Batangas? Had been working there in the past… that will be good… Appreciated how Marky indeed declared his identity and ethnicity…. He stood out and gained the the voice to speak and be heard… Good way to promote the Cordilleras…

Kaya kahit anong mangyari kay Marky, to our eyes and the whole Pilipinas, sya pa rin ang unang Igorot na astista. Kasi he’s very proud of his roots. Yan ang karapat dapat. Isa pa, being an Igorot is not his downfall. It boost him up. Gooo Marky, Mabuhay, Agbiag ti Igorot. Matagotago ka. Sika nan mangabak to.

  15. elow poh…………
    be proud to be Igorot!
pero tanong me lang kun mahilig ka rin sa country music because mostly of the us Igorots is mahilig sa country musics?

  16. Hello, kailian!whew, whattaman, mayat et kayman sa ta inbagam ay igorot ka baken kameg san odom ay ilastog da pay lng.well,we support u a lot here in buguias coz we know and believe that u can do it,if not,we’re still proud of u! as what some of ur fans have said be an ambassador of the cordilllerans.Good luck and God bless!GO FOR IT!my sisters want to say hello to u too,i think we came from the same alma mater,SAN ISIDRO HIGH SCHOOL.

  17. Halo mapteng ay agew tako amen(have a nice day) MARKY -dayta ti kunada nga torogi(igorot) i salute u now people in P.I know(specially southern part)the looks of igorot..Para d nila sabihin na maiitim(pero kahit na maitim shiny pa rin)kulot ang buhok, pandak at may buntot tayong mga igorot.. ..Goodluck and Godbless

  18. Dont know that richard gomez has a blood of igorot as written above what i know was his wife made a comment(bad) before about us..But anyway GO MARKY KAYAM SA! Cka pay igorot+pinoy of course..

  19. eestem marky.!

just got this bulk of email from the BIBAKNETS and lo and behold i am missing something….. so i got interested on who this marky is…

you know. i was a local artist, pang town programs laeng, and was not able to develop or was not supported since there is no forceable future for livelihood/income.

but now here you are… starting to open up new paths for our brethrens from the cordilleras. next thing you know they would discover that there is an untapped hidden talent source up there in the boondocks.

    hasta la vista!

  20. Good luck to you Marky— even if i’m so tired after work- I always look forward for the Star Struck coz of a Kababayan, a fellow Igorot like you… We pray that you will make it– Who says Igorot doesn’t have the right to be ARTISTA, di ba!!!

But to Erik Salvador, who happens to be my first cousin… Don’t be like him—- coz behind that good looks is a DARK SECRET — A DEVIL IN HUMAN’S BODY…

    Marky… Break a leg Man..

  21. i’m an igorot also and i’m proud of u marky..we r here to support u. my mom start watching startstuck bec of you. U CAN DO IT, MARKY…GO GO MARKY…

  22. HELLO THERE MARKY!!!! HONESTLY I HAV’NT WATCH U IN T.VEVER SINCE….BUT UR FAMILIAR HERE AT MINDANAO…I AM NOT UPDATED IN SHOWBIZ CHIKAS SINCE IM VERY BUSY IN MY WORK… I READ ALL THE MESSAGES ABOVE AND I FEEL THERE SENTIMENTS COZ ITS TRUE… HERE AT MINDANAO WHEN THEY KNOW THAT IM FROM BAGUIO THEY THINK THAT IM AN ILOCANO AND I CORRECT THEM BY SAYING: NOPE IM AN IGOROT,AND MOST OF THERE REPLY ARE “SURE KA?,MAY LAHI KA CGURONG CHINESE”ALAM MO HINDI KA MUKHANG IGOROT”AND THEY ASK ME TO DISCRIBE WHAT IGOROTS DO LOOK LIKE AND I TELL THEM TO JUST LOOK AT ME A PURE BLOODED IGOROT,BUT THE I DIOTS JUST LAUGH THINKING THAT I AM JOKING… SO IM SO THANK FULL THAT THERES ANOTHER PROUD IGOROT NO OTHER THAN MARKY!!! ATLEAST THEY DDNT ASK ME TO DESCRIBE AGAIN!!! GO MARKY URAY INTO AY SULI ADO-ADO TAKO…MINBIBINADANG TAKO AY MANG IPAILA IF WHAT IGOROTS REALLY ARE!!!JUST DO UR IGOROTS WILL SUPPORT U AND GOD WILL DO THE REST!!!!

  23. Marky!!!! i cant express my feelings when i’ve learned from bibak.org that you are a starstruck leading candidate and so proud being an igorot!!! Even i cant watch the shows since walang GMA dto sa germany, still its just a click at the internet and im updated about ur success. Always remember what our Mountain Province hymn says…RISE UP YE MOUNTAINEERS ARISE! TAKE PRIDE U ARE A MOUNTAINEER, LIFT UP UR VOICE BE RECOGNIZED, STAND FIRM AND HOLD UR LAND SO DEAR!!! My only sisterly advice, NEVER LET FAME CONQUER UR HUMILITY…

  24. Hi Marky! I never have much time nor the interest watching TV shows except the news and often at 11PM because of work responsibilities as a government employee but my kids are so crazy about this Igorot Marky who continues to stand out in the Starstruck Show. They eat, talk and sleep with Marky news. Even when I was abroad for a short while last year, their text messages contain something about supporting and voting for this Marky so I got interested. And lo! to my amazement, I suddenly realized you are my kumare’s son so I texted your mom just to make sure. Imagine my children’s delight when I told my kids that Marky’s mom is the ninang of their eldest brother. That means you are family!!! Isunga ayee pay nan ragsak da ya inpapati da kayet ay mangsuporta ken sika. I know you are not surprised but everybody here, schools, colleges, offices, businesses, organizations, young an dold alike etc, etc including the province’s officialdom here in Mt. Province from the Provincial Governor to the barangay officials are fully supporting you. Amin magsikompanya ta ibutos da sika, karkaro idwani ay last day magsiluwalo ta sik a nan rumuar. And I guess my son you deserve it. You have made us Igorots so proud of you because of your honesty and humility not to mention your God given talents and guts. As others have already emphasized, you are an ambassador for us from the Cordilleras. Continue to shine and most of all do not forget God who allowed all these things to happen. What is happening now is not a coincidence nor an accident, God willed it for a purpose. Pray and ask God for His will to be done in your life, and for Him to be glorified for all your accomplishments. Even without the final results yet, you are already a winner, the favored one. Tomorrow’s event will just be the icing on the cake. Rest well son, and praying for your strength and peace for the final round. God bless you! He he kamanak teenager ay makiblo blog aya? Uray basta para ken sik-a. Siyadi, matago tago tako ay Igorot ya taga cordillera!

  25. hello marky, i’m an igorot too coz i am an ibaloi (igorot met land adi). just want to say dat keep up the good work and wag kang magsusurender just becoz of the bad words uttured by those walang magawang tao. to the igorts like me, let us support him and be proud too. let us erase those wrong notions about our tribe. thank you and God bless Marky.

  26. The search is over and so with the Lang-ay festival but still Marky’s achievement remains in the heart of most igorots not only back home but also from us here abroad.

Matago-tago nan igorot! Marky, you really are blessed with many talents, continue using them not only for yourself and co-igorots like me but for the GLORY OF GOD!

Keep up the good work and go with Joel Fagsao’s advice.

Members of Bibak isna Canada both nakay ken muyang are looking forward of meeting you here. Keep up the good work kabsat.

  27. Hi Marky,
Just want to say that you have a lot of supporters here in La trinidad who are trying to be like you. Even though most of us are Ibalois here, we are quite proud because you have declared yourself an Igorot without any inhibitions. We just hope that you will continue to show the real identity of being a mountainer. A lot of our lowland brothers do criticize us mountainers because they are still ignorant of the fact that we all look like them, that is in form and in civilization.
